Harper's Story: Week 1

It’s now been a full week since I’ve started closely monitoring Harper’s diet, and it’s definitely been a bit tougher for her than I anticipated. On the positive side, she recently got braces, which has actually worked in my favor. I’ve been able to use her braces as an excuse for why she can’t eat certain foods, which has helped reduce some of the temptation.

Still, she keeps saying: “But mom, it’s only a little gluten. Please?!?! I don’t mind if I feel sick, it tastes so good!” It’s been really tough to stand firm, especially when she insists that she doesn’t mind the consequences. I feel like I’ve spent most of the week saying "no," but I can see that she’s slowly starting to adjust back to her gluten-free routine.

One of the biggest positives this week has been the reduction in her bloating. She’s noticeably less uncomfortable, which reassures me that we’re on the right track. Her go-to snack this week has been Silk almond yogurt (vanilla flavor) with fresh blueberries on top, and she’s been bringing Made Good birthday cake granola bars with her to school every day.

Overall, it’s been a challenging week, but I’m hopeful that this process will become easier for her as she gets more used to the new routine.
